Brand Identity Design
A logo is where a brand starts, not where it ends. It has to work on a business card and a website, on a banner and a shirt, in color and in black and white. I'm Shawn Wright, a Birmingham graphic designer, and because I also design the brochures, reports, and websites that carry a brand, I design marks with every one of those uses in mind.
Brand clients have included:
Medal of Honor Convention 2027 • UAB Honors College • Trinity United Methodist Church • Terramoor • Fortified Exteriors of America • First Avenue Ventures • Sonology Hearing Aid Clinic • Signs of Excellence • Sullivan Service Company • and many others
What I Handle
- Logo and mark: the core of your identity, designed to work at any size
- Color and typography: choices that carry consistently across print and web
- Brand refreshes: updating an existing mark without losing what people recognize
- New identities: for new organizations, products, or a fresh start
- Program and event marks: identities for initiatives, conferences, and milestones
- Final files: a complete set for print, web, and everyday use
How It Works
Many of my clients come back project after project. I keep the process simple: clear communication, realistic schedules, and work delivered on time and on budget.
- Conversation. We talk about who you are, who you serve, and where the mark will be used.
- Concepts. I develop initial design directions for your review.
- Refinement. We choose a direction and refine it until it's right.
- Final files. You receive everything you need for print, web, and everyday use.
Most identity projects take 4 to 8 weeks. The biggest factor is the review and approval process.
Brands Within Brands
Much of my identity work happens inside a larger organization. The UAB Honors College flame needed to feel like its own mark while fitting comfortably within UAB's brand. Sonology Hearing Aid Clinic needed an identity of its own that still complemented its parent practice, McCool & Bhuta ENT. The Medal of Honor Convention 2027 logo had to honor the recipients while representing Birmingham as host city. If your program, department, or event needs a mark that fits the bigger picture, I'd be glad to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a logo or brand identity cost?
It depends on the scope, from refreshing an existing mark to building a new identity. Every project starts with a conversation and a written estimate.
How long does it take?
Most projects take 4 to 8 weeks, depending mostly on reviews and approvals.
Do we need a refresh or a full rebrand?
It depends on how much recognition your current mark carries and what isn't working. If you're not sure, The Design Audit is built to help answer that question.
Do you provide brand guidelines?
Yes, when a project calls for them. Many clients don't need formal guidelines, so we'll decide together what makes sense.
Can you design a mark that fits our organization's existing brand?
Yes. Much of my work is for UAB and other organizations with established brand standards. Designing within a larger system is a regular part of the job.
