“And when we’re done, it’s time for fun”

Quote from Seth Godin? Maybe Frederick Nietzsche or Deepak Chopra? How about an animated kid’s show?

I was making my kids breakfast the other morning and the Nick Jr. show, Tickety Tok was on. My youngest son loves the show and I hear the theme song every morning. Through the din of breakfast plates and morning chatter a phrase from the theme song stood out, “and when we’re done, it’s time for fun.”

I don’t think I could have come up with a better phrase to sum up how I work than this simple sentence. It also works well with my favorite mantra “dare to fail,” that I wrote about in an earlier post.

A quick trip to the internet and I found out that the show Tickety Toc takes place inside an old clock shop on a wall of clocks. Twins Tommy & Tallulah work with their friends to keep the clock ticking and to chime on the hour, every hour. It’s not as easy as it seems, they run into problems and challenges. The website says that the show explores the concepts of teamwork, social responsibility & problem solving in a fun & engaging way.

My work day is like the show Tickety Toc. I run around all day as “I race against time to keep the clock ticking and chime in the time.” I know that if I stay focused and finish the tasks that need to be done for my clients, then it will be time for fun.

I am a big fan of productivity apps and techniques. Anything to help me as I work during the day. Sometimes all it takes is to realize that if I finish my work and take care of my clients then it will be time for fun.

How about you?
